Nostalgia is a feeling of wistful longing for a time in the past, often a time or place that was personally happy. It can be triggered by smells, sounds, or tastes that remind us of good memories. The smells of freshly baked SF sourdough bread transport me to a world of deliciousness that does not exist in other cities and towns. I've lived in Utah and Ohio and I've tried their poor excuse for sourdough bread and it never gives me those feelings I experienced yesterday. This is far and away the best sourdough bread I've ever had and it brings about such vivid memories of time with my father, enjoying the crusty exterior of a sourdough loaf and pressing the slightly damp interior of the bread with my fingers to release the aroma of Fructilactobacillus sanfranciscensis. That insanely unique bacteria that is only present in the wet damp foggy salty air of San Francisco. The flavors are so rich and tangy that it makes me close my eyes and hop in the hot tub Time Machine for experiences of yesteryear. I love Raymond and his family and all the wonderful people who continue to make this delicious bread for us. This truly is a perfect bite of my town and nothing compares to what they offer at this bakery.

Very fresh and delicious sourdough bread. Super affordable and a great treat to add to your daily table or makes tasty sandwiches for your kids to bring for lunch.

Fresh & yummy sourdough. The cinnamon bread is great for breakfast - toast & french toast.

If you are looking for fresh baked sourdough bread made hourly, Raymond's is the spot to go. I needed some bread for cioppino and dropped by her on a Sunday morning. They offer sourdough baguettes and rounds. A giant sourdough baguette runs around $7. The sourdough was so soft and pillowing, and hot and fresh is hard to beat. They also sell half baked bread, which you can finish in the oven. If you like Dutch crunch, they sell sandwich rolls too! I hadn't been in a while but they now accept credit card payments which is convenient. If you are looking for a deal, they say day old for $, which is right by the payment counter. Definitely worth checking out especially with holiday parties coming up, fresh bread is a must.

Warm sourdough. Yum. You can get deals here with day old bread, but warm sourdough is available every hour. Parking is abundant. Cash only.

I'm absolutely overjoyed I stumbled across this bakery, it is in the middle of the industrial cuts of SSF but worth the drive if you're not near. The fresh breads are a very good quality and has an amazing taste. Every bread I have purchased was warm, soft and freshly made. They have apple pay availability but for individual sweets they sell like baked desserts for some reason they only accept cash. The inside is very convenient and straightforward there's a variety of breads and even frozen breads to bake at home.

LOVE this place - what a hidden GEM!! Didn't realize it was here till we happen to find it on Yelp! Had to stop by on the way to SF and I'm SO HAPPY we did. It was near the end of their day but they still had a good selection and OMG - I love you could get their sourdough loaf sliced or unsliced and it was FRESH!!! We bought one to bring to my dads and he opened it up and we ended up eating a few slices!! Definitely had the mild "sourdough" flavor and the bread was SO TENDER and light and crispy on the outside. I love when the "crust" doesn't crumble but maintains it's crunch!! While I do love more sourdough flavor it was fine given the light texture of the bread itself. OMG and when you just add the creamy butter... SO GOOD... I definitely need to go back and get more. AND for the ones I got to bring home we couldn't eat it fast enough so I refrigerated it and toasted it when I needed it and it was still PERECT!! I love tuna and swiss on sourdough and this bread definitely hit it out of the park for my favorite tuna/swiss sando! I need to try their dutch crunch next time...

The sourdough is good enough for us to buy a box to ship home with us!! The service is great!

It took me years of living on the peninsula to find out about Raymond's and while it's not my favorite sourdough, I would still recommend this place. There are often fresh loaves coming out of the oven so you can get a warm loaf. The prices are amazing especially if you get the day old bread. The store was busy so they weren't adequately staffed for the volume that day but it's not a big deal for this establishment. As for the sourdough itself, the texture is soft. I would like a little more crisp on the exterior but that can be done at home with my own oven. Flavor wise, I prefer sourdough with a little more tang, but my favorite places in the Bay Area also cost 2x the price. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference for taste and texture and Raymond's is good for what it is. Easy parking with a lot outside. Cash only.
